What is energy?

According to Wikipedia the definition is:

Is the universe then made up of different energies?

Science shows us that everything is made up of energy and exchanges that with everything else at all times in a most complex way. It is the building block of all matter. The same energy that composes your flesh is the same one that composes the bricks of your house and the trees outside. It is all the same. It is constantly at flow, changing form all the time. This is a very simple explanation of a rather complex thing.

Everything in this universe is made up of the same stuff. It is just present in different forms and shapes.

The human body and cells

Our bodies have an electrical nature. If you shuffle your feet across a carpet and then touch something made of metal you get a small shock of electricity. Also, if you step on a piece of glass you will feel the pain immediately because it is electrically transmitted along the nerves to your brain. In our heart we have “electrical circuits”and we can measure the electrical activity by using a electrocardiograph (EKG).

The human body is made of tissue and organs and the tissue and organs are made up of trillions (millions of millions) of cells. No-one knows for sure how many there are. Each of these cells in our body contain a smaller substructures called organelles (“Little organs”), each of which performs a different task related to the purpose and function of the cell. Blood cells have a different task than skin-cells which have a different task than the brain cells and so on, but they are all necessary to make the body work. In the anatomy of the cells we find many “little organs” like the Cell Membrane , the Nucleus, Cytoplasm, the Endoplasmic Reticulum, the Golgi bodies, the Mitochondrion to mention a few.

The Mitochondria are the “engine” of the cell. They are sausage shaped organelles that are the power sources for the cell. Mitochondria are sometimes described as “cellular power plants” because they generate most of the cell’s supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), used as a source of chemical-energy.

So our human body is filled with cells containing energy. In addition each cell are made up of molecules and these molecules are made up of atoms with protons, neutrons and electrons. What are the atoms made of? Sub-atomic particles. And these sub-atomic particles are pure energy. Hence our body is one big piece of energy and so is everything else in this great universe.

Everything is energy

If we go below this level – to a  subatomic level – scientists have shown us through quantum physics that everything at this level is pure energy. Hence humans are pure energy. Everything in this universe is made up of energy including ourselves. How does it work

The seven chakras are directly responsible for our physical, emotional, and spiritual health. If our chakras are unbalanced, it is the same as our physical body becoming unbalanced as well.

The chakras have their own frequency, as well as every human being, tree, and rock. Every single sound from a key on a piano or a loud bang from a gun sends out a wave of energy. This wave vibrates at its own frequency and affects everything in its path in a positive or negative way.

When is the best time to listen to these tones?

It’s up to you. It is also generally better to set a specific time of day or night so your audio sessions become more routine.  listen to the healing frequencies right after waking up, during the day and just before falling asleep. We  encourage you to experiment and do whatever works best for you.

What happens if I don’t listen regularly?

Although it is best to follow our advice for daily listening, there will be times when you are not able to do so. This is ok – you will still gain the benefits any time you listen.

How long do I need to listen to the frequencies in order to maintain the positive effects?

The longer you continue to listen, the more permanent the changes and improvements. Of course, if you are happy with your results and do not feel a need for more extended listening, you can simply stop. You can always begin listening again anytime as needed. I’m deaf. Will the frequencies work for me?

I believe you can feel the vibrations of chakrasonics  with the whole body. You could experiment using higher volume settings to help compensate for hearing loss. The AUDIO of chakrasonics may even work for you through bone conduction.

Can I listen to the music during sleep?

परमात्मा से वार्तालाप

सदियों से इंसान परमात्मा को जानने के बारे में जिज्ञासु रहा है. परमात्मा के दर्शन के लिए या परमात्मा को महेसुस करने के लिए इंसान ने बहुत प्रयास किये है. और इस लिए इंसान आज तक परमात्मा को मंदिरों में, मस्जिदों में और गिरजाघरों में खोजता रहा है. जिन लोगों का दावा है की उन्होंने परमात्मा को महेसुस किया है या साक्षात्कार किया है उनका कहेना है की परमात्मा का वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता , परमात्मा को इंसान सिर्फ महेसुस कर सकता है, लेकिन जिन्होंने महेसुस किया है उनकी यह मर्यादा है की वह अपने अनुभव को दुसरे इंसान को बता नहीं सकता.

कुछ तथा कथित अध्यात्मिक गुरु तो यह भी कहते है की वह आपको परमात्मा से मिलवा सकते है. लेकिन ध्यान रहे आपको परमात्मा से यदि कोई मिलवा सकता है तो वह आप खुद ही है कोई और नहीं. यह सत्य है की सद्गुरुर आपको परमात्मा से संपर्क स्थापित करने का तरीका बता सकते है. परमात्मा कहीं मंदिरों में मस्जिदों में या गिरजा घरों में नहीं है वह आपके भीतर ही है , आपके बाहर नहीं. जब कभी भी इंसान मंदिर मस्जिद या गिरजाघर  में जाता है तब वह मन ही मन परमात्मा से बात करने की कोशिश करता है प्रार्थना के जरिये. अपने जीवन के दुखों को दूर करने की प्रार्थना करता है, अपनी आकांक्षाओं को और इच्छाओं को पूरी करने के लिए परमात्मा से प्रार्थना करता है आशीर्वाद मांगता है. और कई बार तो मन्नते मांगता है. प्रलोभन इंसान के अपने ही स्वभाव में है इसलिए शायद इंसान सोचता है की मन्नत के रूप में परमात्मा को प्रलोभन देने से परमात्मा इंसान की मुराद पूरी कर देगा. कई बार इंसान अपने आप को मन्नत के रूप में कष्ट देता है यह सोच कर की परमात्मा उन पर दया करेगा. किसी न किसी रूप में या तो परमात्मा को खुश करने की कोशिश है या परमात्मा की कृपा पाने की कोशिश है. पर यह सब बाते इंसान की अपनी निजी आस्था का सवाल है. सही सवाल यह है की क्या वाकई जो हम समझते है परमात्मा के बारे में या जिस रूप में हम परमात्मा को मानते है समझते है वेसा परमात्मा है? क्या परमात्मा से संपर्क बनाना या उनसे वार्तालाप करना संभव है?

मैं यह यकीन से कह सकता हूँ की मैंने खुद के भीतर मौजूद परमात्मा को महेसुस किया है. वह अनुभूति मैं आपको बता तो नहीं सकता पर वह अनुभूति केसे हो सकती है यह तरीका जरुर बता सकता हूँ. मैं यहाँ कोई एसा दावा नहीं कर रहा की मैं कोई सद्गुरु हूँ या कोई संत हूँ. आपमें और मुझमे यदि कोई फर्क है तो वह है अपनी चेतना का स्तर.  में इस पुस्तक के माध्यम से आपको परमात्मा से संपर्क का तरीका बताऊंगा. जेसे की मैंने कहा परमात्मा हमारे भीतर ही है बाहर नहीं. हमे ही चेतना के स्तर को विक्सित करके अपनी चैतसिक शक्तियों को जगाकर अपने इश्वरत्व का एहसास करना है. गुरु तो केवल मार्गदर्शन करता है.

जेसे किसी भी दुसरे इंसान से हम सपर्क करते हे तो वार्तालाप जरुर होता है. और सफल वार्तालाप के लिए जरुरी हे भाषा का ज्ञान होना. यदि दोनों इंसान की भाषा एक ही है तो वार्तालाप सरल हो जाता है. लेकिन यदि भाषा समान नहीं है तो दुसरे इंसान से वार्तालाप कठिन हो जाता है.   

हर इंसान ने परमात्मा को किसी न किसी रूप में अपने बाहर ही देखने की कोशिश की है. कभी भी अपने भीतर झाँकने की कोशिश नहीं की.

कुछ लोग यह मानते है की इश्वर उनकी प्रार्थना सुनता है और उनकी प्रार्थना का जवाब देता है. लेकिन यह सत्य है की जब कभी भी आपने जीवन में यह अनुभव किया हो की आपकी प्रार्थना फलीभूत हुयी तो वह किसी मंदिर या गिरजाघर में मौजूद भगवन की वजह से नहीं किन्तु आपकी अपनी चेतना की शक्ति का ही परिणाम था. प्रार्थना या ध्यान की अवस्था में चेतना अपने आप विक्सित होती है और इस विक्सित चेतना की शक्ति की वजह से, कभी कभार हमारा  संकल्प सिद्ध हो जाता है. लेकिन तब भी हम इस बात का श्रेय मंदिर में मौजूद मूर्ति को देते है अपने भीतर के परमात्मा को नहीं.

अपने भीतर मौजूद परमात्मा से संपर्क और वार्तलाप तब ही संभव है जब हम परमात्मा की भाषा को समझें. इस के लिए पहेली शर्त यह है की हम खुद को परमात्मा का ही अंश माने और अपने ‘अहम्’ को छोड़ें. हम यह जानते है की एक डॉक्टर यदि दुसरे डॉक्टर से बात करेगा तो उनकी भाषा और बातचीत के विषय की स्पष्टता दुसरे इंसान के साथ बातचीत के परिपेक्ष्य में बिलकुल भिन्न होगी. एक डॉक्टर दुसरे डॉक्टर से जिस स्पष्टता से बात कर सकता है उतनी स्पष्टता से डॉक्टर एक सामान्य इंसान के साथ वार्तालाप नहीं कर पायेगा. उसी प्रकार अगर एक संगीतकार दुसरे संगीतकार से बात करेगा वह सामान्य इंसान के मुकाबले वार्तालाप से भिन्न होगा. बात का तात्पर्य यह है की दो समान व्यवसाय के इंसान एक दुसरे के साथ ज्यादा स्पष्टता से वार्तालाप कर पायेंगे उतना ही नही किन्तु उन्हें समान व्यवसाय वाले इंसान से वार्तालाप करने में सामान्य इंसान से वार्तालाप के मुकाबले ज्यादा सरल होगा और ज्यादा आनंद आएगा. एक व्यवसायी दुसरे समान व्यवसाय वाले इंसान के साथ निरंतर संपर्क में रहेना चाहेगा. इसकी वजह यह है की समान व्यवसाय वाले इंसानों की सोच में समानता होती है और उन्हें उपयोग में लिए जानेवाली शब्दावली का भी ज्ञान होता है जब की दुसरे सामान्य इंसान की न तो सोच समान होती है ना ही उन्हें शब्दावली का ज्ञान होता है. अन्य समान्य इंसानों के साथ वह सिमित रूप से सिर्फ जितनी जरुरत है उतनी ही बात करेगा और जरुरत से ज्यादा बात करना टालेगा.

यही तर्क परमात्मा से वार्तालाप के बारे में भी लागु होता है. जब तक आप परमात्मा को खुद से भिन्न मानेंगे तब तक आप परमात्मा से उत्कृष्ट और बहु आयामी रूप से संपर्क नहीं बना पायेंगे. जैसे दो समान सोच वाले समान व्यावसायी या कलाकार मिलते हे तो दोनों मिलकर एक उत्कृष्ट और नयी रचना को जन्म दे सकते है. जब दो कलाकार या संगीतकार साथ मिलकर किसि रचना को जन्म देते है तब किसी में भी अहम् नहीं होता. दोनों एक दुसरे के पूरक बन जाते है. हो सकता है किसी बात पे दोनों में मतभेद हो लेकिन मनभेद नहीं होता. अंततः दोनों में ऐक्य का ही भाव होता है. दोनों मिलकर एक दुसरे के प्रयास में मूल्य वृद्धि ही करते है ताकि रचना अधिक से अधिक उत्कृष्ट हो. यह हो सकता है की दोनों में एक सकारात्मक स्पर्धा हो. यह भी संभव है की दोनों एक दुसरे के ज्ञान की और कौशल्य की कसोटी करें लेकिन मकसद सकारात्मक है. इस प्रकार के रिश्ते में न ही कोई गुरु है न हीं कोई शिष्य . हमारे भीतर जो परमात्मा है उनके साथ हमारा रिश्ता भी कुछ ऐसा ही है.

जब हम परमात्मा को अपने भीतर खोजना शुरू करते है और अपनी ही चतासिक ईश्वरीय शक्तियों को जाग्रत करने का निर्णय लेते है तभी परमात्मा से हमारे संपर्क की प्रक्रिया शुरू हो जाती है. इसलिए हमे अपने आपको स्वयम इश्वर का अंश इश्वर का ही स्वरुप समझना होगा. शुरू में यह कठिन है लेकिन इसके लिए अपने आप को अपने शरीर को परमात्मा को समर्पित करना होगा तभी जैसे जैसे चेतना विकसित होती जायेगी इश्वर की अनुभूति और परिपक्व होती जायेगी. लेकिन जेसे दो कलाकार जब मिलकर कलाकृति की रचना करते है और एक दुसरे को सकारात्मक रूप से चुनौती देते है और एक दुसरे के ज्ञान और कौशल्य को बढाते है ,ठीक वैसा ही परमात्मा हमारे साथ करता है. परमात्मा हमारे जीवन में चुनौतियां पैदा करता है लेकिन साथ ही साथ मार्गदर्शन भी करता है. लेकिन यह मार्गदर्शन की भाषा और शब्दावली को समझना बहुत जरुरी है. हम यह मार्गदर्शन को अपनी चैतसिक शक्तियों के रूप में अनुभव करते है.

भीतर की खोज

परमात्मा का हर सर्जन परमात्मा की उर्जा का ही व्यक्त स्वरुप है. हम भी परमात्मा का ही उत्कृष्ट सर्जन है, परमात्मा का ही व्यक्त स्वरुप है हम.

अपने अहेंकार और संसार की माया की वजेह से हम अपने आप को परमात्मा से भिन्न समझते है हलाकि ऐसा हे नहीं. हम जो भी सवालों के जवाब खोजते है वह सारे जवाब और परमात्मा हमारे भीतर ही है. परमात्मा को कहीं मंदिर मस्जिद और गिरजाघरो में खोजने की आवश्यकता नहीं है. परमात्मा पुरे अनंत कोटि ब्रह्माण्ड का केंद्र बिंदु है और हम सभी जिव उसी केंद्र बिंदु परमात्मा का व्यक्त स्वरुप है. हम में से हर कोई अपनी अनंत चेतना को जगा सकता है और अपने भीतर रहे परमात्मा का अनुभव कर सकते है.

इस धरती पर हर जीव परमात्मा का ही व्यक्त स्वरुप है लेकिन अनेक जन्मो की यात्रा के बाद जब आत्मा मानव रूप में अवतरित होती है तब हर मानव में यह क्षमता होती है की वह अपने भीतर के असीम चेतन स्वरुप को महसूस करें. किन्तु हम परमात्मा को बाहर खोजना शुरु कर  देते है. अपने अहेंकार और मोह की वजेह से दर असल में हम अपना अध्यात्मिक होश खो  चुके होते है और एक प्रकार से बेहोशी में यंत्रवत जीवन जीना शुरू कर देते है. जरुरत है उस बेहोशी से जागने की.

आज इस धरती पर जोश बढाने वालो की कोई कमी नहीं है. वोट्स एप पे, फेस बुक पे, जहाँ देखो जोश बढाने वाले सन्देश एवं वीडियो की भरमार है. हर कोई कह रहा है ‘कुछ भी असम्भव नहीं’ ,’हाँ तुम ये कर सकते हो’. जोश का होना अच्छी बात है लेकिन साथ होश का होना भी जरुरी है. होश का होना मतलब अपने असीम परमात्मा स्वरुप का अहेसास होना. सिर्फ जोश बढाने वाली बाते आपके अन्दर अहम् और उन्माद पैदा करती है. हो सकता है जोश आपको भौतिक कामयाबी दे भी दें लेकिन याद रहे अंत में कभी न कभी तो परमात्मा आपके अहेंकार को क्षीण करने के लिए उस स्थिति में डालेगा जब आपको परमात्मा के शरण में जाने के अलावा कोई चारा नहीं होता.

जोश बढाकर ये कहेना ‘तुम ये कर सकते हो’ आसान है. लेकिन परमात्मा तुमसे क्या करवाना चाहता है और तुम्हे सही में क्या करना चाहिए यह तो सही गुरु ही बता सक्कता है. बाहर से मिलने वाला जोश क्षणिक होता है, में जोश बढाने के साथ साथ होश में लाने का काम भी करता हूँ .

अहेंकार प्रेरित जोश में जीने की वजेह से और भौतिक कामयाबी को ही लक्ष्य मानकर जीने की वजेह से हर कोई कुछ न कुछ समस्या से जुज रहा है और उस समस्या के समाधान के लिए तरह तरह के लोगो के पीछे भागता है.

सद्गुरु कृपा से मुझे मिली हुई क्षमता से मैं आपको अपने भीतर के असीम परमत्मा स्वरुप का परिचय करवा सकता हूँ. एक बार यह परिचय आपको हो जाय बाद में आपको किसी और के पास जाने की जरुरत नहीं रहेती. सारे सवालों के जवाब और सारी समस्याओं के समाधान भी आपको अपने भीतर ही मिलने लगता है. जब आपको अपने भीतरी परमात्मा स्वरुप का परिचय आ जाता है तो आपको समझ आ जाता है की हर इंसान दर असल में परमात्मा का ही प्रतिबिम्ब है , सारी भावनाओ से परे उठकर साक्षीभाव उत्पन्न हो जाता है जीवन मैं . जीवन का सही अर्थ समझ आ जाता है. मोक्ष, मुक्ति आत्म साक्षात्कार इत्यादि सब बातों का सही अर्थ समझ आ जाता है. सारी समस्याओं का आध्यात्मिक पहलु समझ में आने के साथ साथ परमात्मा का सानिध्य और मार्गदर्शन मिलने लगता है.

Level Your Success.

Every person is willing to get success. Why only few people get success? Some people in spite of all difficulties and challenges convert impossible in to possible and achieve success, where some other people are always struggling and remain mediocre through out. their lifetime.

So, what is the difference that makes the difference? All successful people know that the secret of their success is their capability of taking right decision at right time. Each person willing to become successful knows that you need to have a powerful mind to be successful. You may have already noticed that, people who are successful are more decisive and have more control on their mind than the people who are not successful. It is the capability of taking right decisions makes a person successful or a failure. What you can learn from this is the more control you have on your mind the more powerful and successful you become.

Every body has tried to change some thing in their life some time and failed because something has always held them back from changing. Would you like to change the way you live your life? Are you happy with the way you live your life currently?  If you are not, the first step you need to take is learning how to use your mind more effectively. The more control you have on your mind more successful you become.

Getting success is a challenge, if it were not I am sure everybody would be successful. While most people spend, their lives struggling to earn their living a much smaller group seem to have everything working out for them and enjoying life instead of just earning their living.

While for much larger group, life seems to be unfair and unjust. A person says I am good person, a good husband, a good worker how come these are the people happy and prosperous and I am always struggling to earn my living. Why nothing seems to work out for me I am even smarter and willing to work harder than some of these other people who just seem to have everything going their way. For becoming successful in fact, you got to be more than just a good person or a good worker. You got to be a good planner and a good dreamer, you got to see the future finished in advanced.

It is very rightly said if you can visualize you can actualize. Your subconscious mind is like a magnet and it attracts whatever you focus on unconsciously.

You got to put in long hours, put up with set backs and disappointments. You got to learn to enjoy the process of success rather then just knowing the secrets of the success. You need to be prepared to attack the challenges if you want the success because challenges are the part of success.

The process of going from average to fortune is not all that difficult. Thinking about it is a difficult part. Anticipating all the efforts in the process of changing are far worse in mind than in the reality.

The challenges you meet on the road to success are far less difficult to deal with than the struggles and disappointment that comes from being average and mediocre. Confronting and overcoming challenges is exhilarating experience. What actually prevents us from taking right decision at right time than? Its our self esteem.

Do you find it more difficult than most to reach important decisions? When faced with a problem, are you able to stay reasonably objective or do you internalize the situation? Every individual perceives crises situations differently and thus, handles them differently. People with high self-esteem generally feel confident when faced with unexpected life challenges, while those with lower self-esteem constantly question their ability to cope with them. The good news is that through self-awareness you can work on “the weaker parts” of yourself and unleash your individual talents and uniqueness in all arenas of your life.  

Becoming more self-aware is not always easy or fun, however. Individuals must be completely honest with themselves, and this requires patience and perseverance. Low self-esteem may stem from the following:
(1) negative childhood experiences,
(2) repeating negative patterns in adulthood and
(3) feelings of failure. 

Do newborn babies come into the world worried and distressed or do they come into the world clean and ready to explore? Unfortunately, as children we are unable to choose our environment or upbringing. All we have to go on is what our parents and schoolteachers tell us. Some parents praise their children by saying things like, “I’m proud of you” or “You did a great job.” Others criticize their children by saying things like, “You’re so stupid” or “You should know better than that.” Did you know that children actually pick up their own parents’ fears subconsciously and are victims of their parents’ projections? 

Now think about a child who was raised in verbally and/or physically abusive surroundings. How does he or she learn to cope? This child has three choices:
(1) He or she can follow their parents who lead them like “sheep”,
(2) He or she can rebel against their parents or
(3) He or she can go back and forth between the two behaviors.

The point: when children grow into adolescence, they must find a “balance” between listening to their parents and making their own independent decisions.  Parents with low self-esteem need to heal themselves so they don’t further contaminate their child’s mind.  

Low self-esteem may also stem from negative patterns continued through to adulthood.  Perhaps what you learned as a child is showing up in your own marriage and/or other relationships. Abusive relationships of any kind are “familiar” territory, and this “familiarity” is what perpetuates negative behavioral patterns to begin with. If “daddy” had a bad temper and hit his daughter, for example, that child (who is now an adult) might go out and marry a man just like him, if she fails to break the pattern through self-awareness work.  

Poor self-esteem may also arise from “feeling like a failure”. Individuals may perceive a life change or life challenge negatively or incorrectly. For instance, losing a job, doing poorly on an exam, or getting a divorce may feel like “the end of the world” to one person and a “temporary downfall” to the next. Individuals with low self-esteem internalize failure and always look for others to boost them because their environment doesn’t. Now science called NLP is available to us, which can help enhancing the self-esteem.  

Three tips on how you can boost your self-esteem are worth mentioning here: (1) Recognize your uniqueness, (2) Understand whom the problem belongs to and (3) Open up to someone trustworthy to guide you through the process.

In order to recognize your uniqueness, ask yourself the following question and write down your answers: “What am I good / great at?”  If it’s music, writing, swimming or all of these things, right them down. By making a list for yourself, you will soon tap into your true self. The next step is to go out and do those things you love and further develop your skills.  

Next: understand that deep-rooted negative feelings come from being around negative and  toxic people for too long. Remember that critics really criticize what they don’t like about themselves. This is known as the “mirror effect.” Critics are subconsciously saying, “I see in you what I dislike in me.” By understanding that their views belong to them and not to you, your self-esteem is more likely to stay when negative words are said.  

A final tip to boost your self-esteem is to speak to a trusted friend or therapist. By opening up to a good listener who cares about you, you will begin to let go of negative feelings  and feel restored.  

Furthermore, until you deal with your self-esteem issues, business success cannot be fully achieved or enjoyed. By working on your self, success must follow. Ignoring your problems and repeating the same patterns is an unhealthy road to nowhere.  Poor self-esteem will linger in all of your business dealings. If you were obliged to behave like a “sheep” following your parents’ demands as a child, you might do the same thing in the workplace and get eaten alive “by wolves”. Take the first step and be honest with yourself about where you are in your life, and especially where you hope to see yourself in the future. 

Now picture this scenario: You see yourself as a child, struggling in a difficult or unhappy environment. You suddenly experience negative emotions you’ve kept bottled up for years. You discuss your feelings with a close friend or therapist. You find yourself letting go of everything you’ve kept so close to your heart due to feelings of shame. You suddenly feel light, like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders. You see how you’ve held yourself back from all the wonderful things you have yet to experience in life. We are all beautiful human beings and we each have the right to be who we are. Unfortunately our environment may shape some of us to believe otherwise. The good news: healing comes from within and can be spread once we all recognize that everyone in this world is equal, and should be treated as such.

Stuck in a Rut

Are you stuck in a rut… stuck in a rut… stuck in a rut…?

Are you dissatisfied with the status quo? Do you need a change in your life? Are you repeating the same routine over and over, like a broken record? Are you stuck in a rut and can’t get out? If so, you need to ask yourself how can your life change if you are not willing to make changes in your life? Obviously, the only way we can get out of a rut is by doing something different, by changing. Those who don’t learn how to change are not in a rut; they’re in a grave. So, if we don’t want to be counted among the living dead, we’ll have to learn what is preventing us from moving forward. Let’s look at three possible causes and how to overcome them.

1. Inertia
What would happen if you were to stop using the muscles of your body? Without use, they begin to waste. Eventually, you’ll experience muscular atrophy. You’ll become immobilized, unable to move. The same applies to our mental health. Suppose I begin to slack off. What if I were to stop practicing self-discipline and neglect my tasks? If I were to stop my activities, wouldn’t I develop intellectual atrophy? Wouldn’t I wind up in a rut? Leonardo da Vinci thought so, for he wrote, “Iron rusts from disuse; water loses its purity from stagnation and in cold weather becomes frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigors of the mind.”

In 1687, Isaac Newton described the law of inertia. He explained how a body in motion tends to remain in motion while a body at rest tends to remain at rest. The only way to get a resting body to move again is to apply a force. I am an example of a body at rest when I doze on the couch. My wife kicking me in the behind and telling me to mow the lawn is an example of a force propelling me to action. Kicks in the behind, however, can be self-directed. That is, we can kick ourselves out of a rut. We begin by reviewing our situation and recognizing its seriousness. At first we may think we’re just standing still, pausing for a rest. But once we realize the rest of the world is moving away from us and we’re falling behind, we’ll recognize the need for action.

What is the cure for inertia? Simple, action! However, trying to start a project after a long spell of inactivity is like trying to start your car on a freezing winter day. It’s difficult. If you want to succeed, the trick is to do something that is EASY and will bring you closer to your goal. For example, let’s say I have to write a letter to Aunt Matilda and I hate to write letters. To accomplish my goal, I create a plan that is so easy to do, I cannot fail. Here’s an example. Today I will fill out the envelope and put a stamp on it. That’s easy enough, I can do that in five minutes. Tomorrow, I will make a list of six subjects to write about in my letter (another five minutes). The day after, I will write paragraph one. And so on, until the letter is completed and dropped into the mail. Each small action that I take is grease that unclogs the cogwheels of inertia and gets me back on track.

Although the plan I made to write Aunt Matilda should take a week or longer to complete, I would perform the task in half that time or less. Why? Because, as Isaac Newton explained, once a body is in motion it tends to remain in motion. Another way of putting it is, the small action steps I take generate the energy to take further action steps. Once started, the project almost completes itself. So, start lifting yourself out of the rut today. Pick a goal and divide it into EASY action steps. This is a prescription for fun and success and may be all you need to do to turn your life around.

2. Resistance Syndrome
The Resistance Syndrome is a coping device we develop in childhood. For instance, as a child we may be told to keep our room tidy or mommy will be angry. How can children understand why being organized and tidy is important? They can’t. But what they do understand is that they need mommy and daddy to survive. They can’t survive alone. Fearful of being abandoned and denied love, they are forced to comply with mommy’s wishes. Understandably, children don’t want to yield their wills completely. They want to retain some independence, some identity. They don’t want to be reduced to slaves with broken wills. So, what are they to do? They do what has to be done, but not completely. They resist to protect their individuality. They may clean up the room, but deliberately place some items in the wrong places, or perhaps clean up most of the room but leave a corner undone.
Over the years, the Resistance Syndrome becomes an ingrained habit. We take it to school and later to the workplace. What once helped us to retain our identity in childhood, now prevents us from doing what we want to do for our own good, such as working out in the health club or making repairs on the house. Understand that your boss, your spouse, and others are entitled to make legitimate requests. Don’t misinterpret everything as an attempt by others to control you. You stopped wearing diapers a long time ago, now it is time to stop carrying around the Resistance Syndrome and accept responsibility for your own happiness. By becoming aware of the problem you will loosen its grip on you, and by taking small, easy action steps you will be able to overcome it.

3. Avoidance of discomfort
Primitive man avoided pain and discomfort and was attracted to pleasure because his survival depended on it. If our ancestors were uncomfortably cold, they could freeze to death. If they were comfortable before a fire, they would survive. The pleasure of eating and discomfort of hunger were powerful forces that enabled them to endure. Today, we no longer have to hunt for our food or make fires to keep warm. Yet, instinctively, we continue to avoid discomfort. This is why we avoid anything that requires effort and take refuge in anything that gives pleasure. But if we allow ourselves to follow our instincts, we will become trapped in our comfort zone, stuck in a rut.

The cure for this problem is the same as the cure for the Resistance Syndrome: awareness and action. The principal component of which is action. For as American folk hero Ben Stein said, “You must take the first step. The first steps will take some effort, maybe pain. But after that, everything that has to be done is real-life movement.” It also helps to change your perspective. The next time you feel uncomfortable, don’t flee from it but embrace it. For discomfort is an indicator that you are going in the right direction, outside of your comfort zone. That is the road of change and the path to a better you, so welcomes it and enjoys the journey.
